Alfa media chair : work

Click on the images to study them

How did this design improve life?:
It represents the new generation of auditorium chair. While the lecturing has become more interactive, the furnishing should follow this trend. Alfa is individual, it doesn't necessarily have to be assembled in straight lines. It turns around if somebody from the audience has the word. It has a turning table element, to fit all body sizes. It can be electricity or net adjusted, the modern communication is available.

Short description of design:
Alfa - swivelling media auditorium chair for today's interactive seminars
Functionallity and use of design:
Each chair is individual. Each chair swivels. The table element also swivels. Can be adjusted with electricity or/and net.
Drawbacks of life improvement:
+ The improvement mainly happens in ideological level. To make speaker - audience less controversial. Communication is always important, also within the audience. The chairs don't have to be assembled in straight lines, because the audience consists of individuals. The lecturer can walk anywhere, wonder around, talk to anyone, set the audience in groups during workshops etc.

- Alfa takes more space than an average auditorium chair. Alfa is less efficient per square meter.
Research and need:
The work started in early 2000. Several Helsinki area auditoriums were checked, professors interviewed. The producer clearly wanted to come up with a new concept in this field. First presented in Stockholm Avarte Svenska exhibition in October 2002. First furnishing in Gothenburg IT University summer 2004.
