With the INDEX: Award, INDEX: seeks to illustrate just what Design to Improve Life truly is.
We exhibit some of the best examples of 'Design to Improve Life' that have improved life for vast numbers of people, and award the five best ones.
Prior to awarding the INDEX: 2005 Award, 150 leading design institutions in North America, Europe and parts of Asia had, over the course of a year, submitted their nominations for the INDEX: Award. The INDEX: international jury then selected the 118 top nominees before choosing the five winners. They where chosen in the beginning of August but were kept a well guarded secret.
On 23 September 2005, the five INDEX: Awards, worth €100,000, were presented within the five categories: Body, Home, Work, Play and Community. An award ceremony was staged at the Copenhagen Town Hall for official guests.
The same day, the INDEX: Award Exhibition opened, featuring 96 top nominations for INDEX: Award. The exhibition took place in display set-ups on five Copenhagen squares: Town Hall Square, Gammel Torv, Højbro Plads, the Metro Square at Kongens Nytorv and Kongens Nytorv. The exhibition closed on October 23 rd 2005.
